Steady, steady...

I've tried to follow this writing tip I saw somewhere, where you try to increase your daily word count slowly and steadily, and keep record of it as well. I found out that the tip helps me - I give myself a smiley face in the calendar when I get the word count down for the day. All of February was a mess, the word count was up and down and sideways, but now I've gotten two weeks of steady progress!

I was hoping I could get the daily word count nudged somewhere around the NaNo amounts, because April is a Camp NaNo month and I could do that (with better luck than last year). Though steady 500 word/day amount would be absolutely amazing too, considering how sporadically I've written stuff for the last year or so.

Though I have noticed that I need to have a clear plan what I'm going to write when I start. If I just sit down and stare at the screen, I can't be bothered to write and go do something else instead (like playing Candy Crush Soda, or something. Curse that game! /shakes fist)

So, a) day goal, b) plan or prompt to write, and c) rewarding yourself with smileys seem to work against writer's block for me. Wonder if I could throw a timer in the mix...
