For last few weeks I've been testing a following idea: I pay groceries in cash only, never with card. It has been very illuminating experience for me.

I realized that I tend to think I need to go buy groceries when I'm out of bread - it doesn't matter that I have food in the fridge for two days. I bough a box of crispbread, and that seems to help stop that kneejerk reaction. The downside is that it's delicious crispbread (rye & sesame seed, yum!) and I've devouring the box. But still! Good idea.

Anyway, so I felt like I allotted a good amount of money for one week worth of groceries, and I've been doing fine with it, so it must be a good amount because it works (faultless logic :D). And today I read a story in a magazine where people with different attitudes for groceries talked about their food week, and their monthly budget was 600 €! Like...Holy shit. o.O Their weekly budget was bigger than the amount I've allotted to my whole month. The other person had a partner so she cooked for two, but the other one lived alone. How the heck do you use 600€ for food? (well, fresh, organic, high end brands...Easy when you put your mind to it?)

I suppose one persons week budget is anothers day budget? Still, mind-boggling amount of money.
