Rory in the 'after 7th season' sense, Becky... maybe if she had survived the hitman in the end?

The girl is huddling close to the public phone, her gaze flicking through the crowd of the bar in quick, careful flashes. Rory can't remember ever seeing a phone that old, not even back in Stars Hollow. She has been on the road for so long, that most of the days home feels like a distant dream. Rory stands in polite distant, waiting for her turn to use the phone. The girl's voice is clear even through the noise of the bar.

”...I don't know what I'm going to do mom, it's all a bit complicated but don't worry... Mom? Hello?... Damn.”

Rory watches how the girl digs her pockets with silent desperation, clutching the receiver with white fingers. Without thinking, Rory steps closer, holding out the coins she had been saving for her own phone call. This isn't the first time her cellphone had died and she has learned to be vigilant with her coins. So she has plenty and besides, mom would accept a collect call from her any day. This girl needs the coins.

The girl blinks at her out stretched hand, like she can't fathom why Rory is showing her the money. She is thin like a willow tree and her jewelry is boisterous, cheap and dangly. This close Rory can clearly see that her lipstick is just a smudged line. Her eyes are cornflower blue and something cold skitters along Rory's spine. Someone walked across your grave, Babette would say.

“Here. Go on, your call was cut short and your mom will worry. I know mine would. I don't mind waiting.”

“...Thanks.” She snatches the money from her hand, like a child snatches a piece of candy. The coins clatter into the phone and she punches the number without hesitation. Her nail polish is chipped and Rory glances at her own neatly manicured nails. She sits all day in a buss, there is time to buff and file. She tries to imagine this girl's story, what has lead her to this smoky bar, clinging to the phone like it is the life line to safety. What has made her so sad and scared.

The girl ends the conversation and places the receiver back to its cradle. “Thanks again, for the change.”

She walks back to the bar, her hips gaining extra swing when she passes the laughing and drunken groups of men. They notice the professional gait and there is whistling and shouting that she takes in stride. She leans to the bar counter and it doesn't take long before someone is buying her a drink. Her laughter is shrill and fake. Rory has seen that song and dance before, in high end hotel bars and local joints, it is always the same. It doesn't shock her anymore, like it once did, and maybe it still should.
She has been on the road far too long.

Rory pushes the familiar numbers and asks a collect call to Lorelai Gilmore, Stars Hollow.
